Megaword Episode 1; Charlatans, James Brown:

Terry Christian introduces "Megaword" from way back in 1990, first band is The Charlatans with the original Word performance of their track 'Then' from the album 'Some Friendly' which is available to buy here for only a fiver

Nirvana had their infamous live world TV debut on The Word. Kurt opens by declaring that: "I want everyone in this room to know that Courtney Love, the lead singer of the sensational pop group Hole, is the best f~ck in the world". Originally the song was cut short by the programme finishing before the song was complete (not uncommon with live TV shows).

The song was broadcast in complete form and more recently on Channel 4's Best of the Word. Complete versions feature the end of the song, a destruction and Kurt shouting "Roger Taylor, Roger Taylor" over and over. Footage from the songs finale was also used on Channel 4's programme on the 100 Greatest Albums shown in late 1998.

OK, I had this idea of making The Word music available in small bundles (In Youtube friendly 10 mins)  So I'm busy putting together musical performances  and uploading them.  I will be putting them up on Youtube but they always get picked up automatically as copyright owned by Channel 4 and they disable embedding which makes it impossible to put the clips here.  As normal I will upload the music to my 4shared account and embed the clips right here on the site.  First up is Oasis, Hole and Pulp - The dream team!

It's almost 15 years (Unbelievably) since the show went off for good and its about time it was either repeated or released onto DVD.  I know Channel Four are putting their archives online so I hope they put The Word up too for us all to enjoy.  I have got about 25% of the episodes they made which means there's a LOT of great stuff languishing on a dusty old shelf somewhere that demands to be seen.  Come on Channel 4 - Get em shown!

Whatever your views on THE WORD, it was a classic TV show and demands respect!

DANNII MINOGUE vs MARK LAMARR

Back in 1992 Dannii Minogue went on The Word and had an "interview" with Mark Lamarr.  I sense a bit of flirting going on but in the end it was only Lamarr who got damp and not Minogue!! This is a class Word moment from Mark Lamarr's very first stint at presenting the show following months of being sidelined to The Word's sister show, Access All Areas.

JOHN LYDON:

"A Vagina is a very wonderful thing"

Johnny on The Word?!  This was Johnny Rotten's second live appearance on The Word, following a live transmission from Universal Studio's Hollywood, where Lydon managed to p*ss off most of the film crew with his demands and attitude.  In this clip he does his best to be controversial, and even gives Terry Christian a cassette-tape case wig!
